Wanting a new adult, college sports, enemies to lovers romance book? You’ve come to the right place!
One of my favorite tropes is new adult college sports. Add in enemies to lovers who are roommates and I’m set. That’s what The Tomboy and The Captain by Ginger Scott offers.
This book took me a minute to jump into, but once I did, I was excited to continue reading it!
I read this book on Kindle Unlimited and these are my honest opinions.
It was supposed to be my year, but then he made a bet that I couldn’t refuse…
A star senior on the Tiff U volleyball team, it’s been my goal to come back strong after an injury that nearly took me out of the game. But I’m Laney freaking Price, and I’m taking my shot to make it on the new pro women’s team, despite the lack of support from my father.
The problem? Cutter McCreary. He is the Captain of the Tiff U hockey team, all-around loveable guy, and a total player. And did I mention a complete thorn in my side since freshman year? Yeah…that guy. His charms don’t tempt me.
Until…a mix up with our housing situation forces us into a bit of a predicament. We were both promised a room. The same room.
His proposal? A bet. We split the room in half—for now. Whoever falls in love with the other first has to move out. The winner gets to stay. But when strategic glances turn into late night talks, and fake kisses start to feel real, I’m finding myself without a game plan. And winning suddenly doesn’t feel like the only thing that matters.
Summary: The Tomboy and the Captain by Ginger Scott
Laney Price returns to her Tiff U volleyball team after an injury ready to start her senior year off strong. But she needs a place to stay and her best friend has just the right room.
Unfortunately, Cutter McCreary, captain of the hockey team, had the same idea and now they’re one room short.
Even though he tried (and failed) to charm her pants off senior year, Laney still can’t stand the guy and his playboy ways.
Cutter proposes a bet: both split the room down the middle, and whoever falls in love first has to move out. Except, things start getting real and late conversations open up a new side of Cutter that Laney didn’t see coming.
Who will fall first?
My Thoughts: The Tomboy and the Captain by Ginger Scott
The Tomboy and The Captain sat in my Kindle for a while before I decided to pick it up. And I’m so glad I did!
Cutter tried to pick up Laney back in their freshman year and she never forgot or forgave him for it. In fact, in Laney’s eyes, Cutter is the epitome of playboy charmer.
Unbeknownst to her, Cutter doesn’t REALLY see Laney as an enemy. In fact, if she ever gave him the time of day, he would be all over her.
I think what stopped me from jumping right in was the bet they had going on: whoever falls first moves out. It just didn’t make sense to me. But as enemies, Laney definitely wasn’t going to fall for Cutter… and that made the story much more interesting!
I loved how quickly Cutter started taking care of Laney and how he showed her the parts of him that weren’t playboy-ish nor charming. In fact, he had some dark things he was dealing with and turns out, Cutter is actually pretty sweet!
Overall, I enjoyed The Tomboy and The Captain very much!
Final Thoughts: The Tomboy and the Captain by Ginger Scott
If you’re looking for a college sports, dislike to love, close proximity story, this is the one for you! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves new adult romance with a touch of angst and character growth.
Ginger Scott definitely knows how to write a great enemies to lovers story! Happy reading!
