Looking for a brother’s best friend, college sports romance? Jennifer Sucevic does it again with Never Mine to Hold!
Have you stumbled upon Never Mine to Hold by Jennifer Sucevic yet? If not, let me be the first to tell you that you’re in for a story of an inexperienced main female character and a boy-obsessed main male character!
Jennifer draws you in with her storytelling and writes premises that just suck you right in. So, grab your comfiest blanket and prepare for a tale that’s all about love, loss, and the messy in-between.
I read this book on Kindle Unlimited. These are my honest opinions about Never Mine to Hold.
Wolf Westerville.
There was a time when my world revolved around him, and I’d foolishly thought he’d be the one to claim all my firsts. Those dreams shattered into a million jagged pieces when the unthinkable happened.
Five years later and we both attend the same college. He’s a superstar goaltender for the Western Wildcats with a ticket to the NHL. I’m just trying to make it through the last year and a half of college all the while doing my best to avoid him.
Wolf has decided that it’s time for us to get reacquainted. As far as I’m concerned, he can shove that idea where the sun doesn’t shine.
Better yet, he can bend over, and I’ll happily do it for him.
He might not realize it, but my life is splintering apart at the seams. My parents have lost everything and can’t pay my tuition for the second semester, which means I need to figure something out.
Fast.
Or I’ll be forced to drop out and move back home.
Unwilling to allow that to happen, I decide to sell the only thing I have of value.
My V-card.
Summary: Never Mine to Hold by Jennifer Sucevic
Wolf and Fallyn were childhood friends when an unfortunate accident happened that tore them apart for 5 years. Now they attend the same college and Wolf is the golden goalie for the Western Wildcats, the school’s hockey team.
Fallyn doesn’t want anything to do with Wolf while he pines for her from far away, knowing that she will just walk away from him if he even tries to get close to her.
Wolf finds out that Fallyn is in financial need when he overhears her selling her most valued possession to help pay for her school tuition. Still wanting to protect her, Wolf makes sure that he’s the only one buying.

My Thoughts: Never Mine to Hold by Jennifer Sucevic
College sports romances are totally my weakness, and I’ll one-click them every single time, no doubt about it! Jennifer Sucevic nailed it with that whole childhood friends turned enemies turned lovebirds vibe, all set in a college hockey scene.
I loved the dynamic between Wolf and Fallyn, how he was so fiercely protective of her and Fallyn trying so hard to push him away not knowing the depths of how much he wants her.
Wolf is the kind of guy who has eyes for only one person—Fallyn. Despite all the attention he could have gotten, being the golden goalie and all, he literally never entertains the idea of other girls.

It’s as if his heart stubbornly decided it’s Fallyn or no one, and that’s that. I mean, if that doesn’t scream grand romance, I don’t know what does! That’s some book-boyfriend material!
On the flip side, Fallyn’s character was a bit harder for me to get cozy with. I get that she’s been through a lot (so did Wolf), but as someone flipping page after page, I couldn’t fully understand the depth of her dislike for Wolf.
I do love a good inexperienced female main character and Never Mine to Hold did it for me. I would tell you the other micro-trope that I was so excited Jennifer Sucevic added, but this is spoiler free so you’ll just need to pick up the book and find out! 🙊

Final Thoughts: Never Mine to Hold by Jennifer Sucevic
I rated Never Mine to Hold 4 stars mainly because I couldn’t get completely on board with Fallyn. But everything else from the writing to the plot was spot on for me.
If you’re into college sports romance with childhood friends trope, this is definitely one that you’ll want to add to your TBR! Plus, it’s available on Kindle Unlimited, so no excuse not to give it a try! 😉
