Looking for a golden retriever/black cat love story with a side of humor? You’ve come to the right place!
Not So Truly Yours is the 4th and final installment of Julia Wolf’s book series The Harder They Fall. This is the story of Miles and Daisy, a golden retriever/black cat dynamic.
Miles is a notorious playboy who has his sights set on winning Daisy’s heart, but she is not easily swayed by his charm. As they navigate their way through misunderstandings and past traumas, they both learn to open up and let love in.
I have been a fan of Julia Wolf’s writing since before the first book in this series, and Not So Truly Yours did not disappoint.
I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy of Not So Truly Yours from Julia Wolf and her PR team. These are my honest opinions.
The first time I met Miles Aldrich, he stole my cupcakes.
The second time, I handed him a bill for what he owed me. He’s a billionaire after all. He can afford it.
The third time we met… well, that was the biggest surprise of all. I walked into his office looking for help with a business plan. But I somehow walked out… with a fake boyfriend.
Miles claims the plan is simple: he’ll lend me his powerful family’s reputation by posing as my boyfriend. I’ll gain important contacts, and he’ll have someone by his side so he doesn’t have to make excuses for why he’s not dating anyone.
For one whole summer, Miles Aldrich is not so truly mine. The real man behind the smooth lines and flirty smiles is nothing like I assumed.
He’s sunshine in a tall, gorgeous package.
He kisses me like his life depends on it.
Logically, I know this relationship of ours isn’t real.
But the problem is… the feelings he’s bringing out in me are true as can be.
Summary: Not So Truly Yours by Julia Wolf
While volunteering at the bar as a favor for his friend, Miles steals Daisy’s cupcakes not knowing that she’s a contractor selling them in the bar.
On their second meeting, Daisy bills the billionaire for her cupcakes and silently takes business advice from him. When she’s looking for more solid advice after deciding that she wants to make a go of her catering business, Daisy serendipitously meets Miles again as her business coach.
After all is said and done, Daisy finds herself with a fake boyfriend and Miles is happy to have someone on his arm for all the schmoozing he has to do at charity events.
They make a pact for the summer: he’ll help her with her business idea and she will be his fake girlfriend for the summer.
But when lines start blurring and things take a serious turn, will Miles and Daisy be true to themselves or continue faking it?
My Thoughts: Not So Truly Yours by Julia Wolf
I am so excited that Not So Truly Yours is finally here! I’ve been waiting for Miles’ story and he makes one of my top 10 book boyfriends. I love this enthusiasm, energy, and sense of humor!
The chemistry between Miles and Daisy is electric, and their banter had me laughing out loud multiple times, from the very beginning of the book. But what I appreciated most about this book was the depth of character development.
Throughout the series, we have seen Miles’ as an unrepentant and selfish playboy, but he starts to change when he goes into partnership with Saoirse (book 2, Sincerely, Your Inconvenient Wife), but in Not So Truly Yours, we finally get to see him fully exposed.
Wolf does an excellent job of showing the reader Miles’ past hurts and traumas, especially with his brother and mother, that have shaped him into the man he is today. And as we see Daisy breaking down his walls, it’s impossible not to root for them.
Daisy is equally complex and relatable. Her family is strong as can be, but they have gone through deep tragedy. I appreciated Wolf’s honest portrayal of Daisy’s struggles and how she learns to lean on Miles for support.
I so love how Miles’ friend group automatically accepts Daisy as she is since she hasn’t experienced much of that throughout her life. At the same time, Miles’ finds a “normal” family dynamic in Daisy’s family. They are just perfect for each other!
As for what I wish there was for Not So Truly Yours…
I missed the email exchanges that were very present in the first 3 books. For Miles and Daisy, there was exactly ONE email sent and it wasn’t the witty banter that you can find in the first 3 books.
I would have loved more of that to just round out the series.
There might also be a kink or two in here that’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Personally, it was my first reading experience with this kink and I didn’t hate it. 🙃
I still stand by the fact that this book is truly an emotional rollercoaster, and it’s worth every moment.
Final Thoughts: Not So Truly Yours by Julia Wolf
In conclusion, Not So Truly Yours is a witty and heartfelt conclusion to The Harder They Fall series. It’s full of humor, romance, and heartache that will keep you turning the pages until the very end.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series for anyone looking for a good love story with depth and substance.
