Need a new heartwarming, workplace love, fake relationship romance book? I’ve got you covered!
I’m absolutely buzzing to share my take on Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez! This is the second book to Abby Jimenez’s series Part of Your World. You don’t need to read the first one to enjoy Yours Truly.
I’m still thinking about the love, grief, and hilarious, unexpected twists Briana and Jacob take, and you’re not going to want to miss a beat.
As a book lover, I’ve been on more literary dates than I can count, and this is one for the books (no pun intended).
A novel of terrible first impressions, hilarious second chances, and the joy in finding your perfect match.
Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalized, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants? Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already registering eighty-friggin’-seven on Briana’s “pain in my ass” scale. But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr. Jacob Maddox completely flips the game . . . by sending Briana a letter.
And it’s a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn’t actually Satan. Worse, he might be this fantastically funny and subversively likeable guy who’s terrible at first impressions.
Because suddenly he and Bri are exchanging letters, sharing lunch dates in her “sob closet,” and discussing the merits of freakishly tiny horses. But when Jacob decides to give Briana the best gift imaginable—a kidney for her brother—she wonders just how she can resist this quietly sexy new doctor . . . especially when he calls in a favor she can’t refuse.
Summary: Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez
Dr. Briana Ortiz works in a high-stress environment: the ER. Despite loving her job, she is struggling to move on from her husband cheating on her with a close friend and her brother’s need for a kidney transplant.
Briana is also hoping to be promoted to chief of emergency medicine.
On his first day in Briana’s ER, Dr. Jacob Maddox was dubbed Dr. Death and got on Briana’s bad side. He was aloof and rude, and he was after her dream of being chief of emergency medicine.
In actuality, Jacob is one of the kindest humans, but he struggles with social anxiety. He felt like it was his first day in elementary school and he was struggling to make friends.
When Briana ran past him and broke his phone, he just wanted to let her know. Jacob didn’t mean to come off as rude and arrogant.
After Jacob realizes what Briana thinks of him, he can only think to write her a letter.
And she replies back.
My Thoughts: Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez
Briana’s resilience is a force to be reckoned with. Her unyielding spirit in the face of betrayal and her brother’s illness is the kind of grit that makes you want to stand up and cheer. It’s honest, brutal, and yet incredibly hopeful.
Jacob Maddox is not your typical rom-com lead. Beneath his blockbuster-worthy exterior lies a man riddled with anxiety, making the prospect of interaction a Herculean task.
I loved the way Jimenez debunks stereotypes and offers a character with depth and complexity.
Jacob’s struggle with social anxiety is tackled with such empathy that it feels like a warm hug to everyone dealing with their mental battles. Jimenez normalizes it without trivializing it, and for that, she deserves a round of applause.
What starts with a misstep – literally and figuratively – blooms into one of the most genuine and heartfelt romances I’ve read in a long while.
They say love is friendship set on fire, and that’s exactly what we see between Briana and Jacob.
It’s the kind of love that inspires, makes you laugh out loud in appreciation, and just might mist up your eyes with its tenderness.
Jimenez deftly navigates the nuances of their relationship. She doesn’t shy away from the stark realities we face – the loss, the heartache, and the unexpected joys that pepper our lives.
This delicate balance is what sets Jimenez’s writing apart.
Amidst all the heartache and anxiety, the book is a celebration of the power of friendship.
The way both Briana and Jacob’s friends stand up for them is heartwarming and is even better when they both grow into a deeper friendship that turns into true love.
Final Thoughts: Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez
For me, Yours Truly is a five-star read that I’d recommend to anyone in the mood for a love story that’s as real as it is out-of-this-world. Abby Jimenez has a way of crafting romance that feels fresh in a genre often criticized for being formulaic.
I know that Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez will be a well-worn book in my collection. It’s the kind of story I want close by, not just for the comfort of familiar words but for the contagious optimism and life lessons that echo between its pages.
Would I recommend it? With every fiber of my book-loving soul. Grab a copy, a cup of comforting beverage, and tell the world you’re unreachable (unless they want to discuss the book, of course). It’s that good.
