Olive O’Brien is a plus-size influencer with half a million followers and big dreams. And she’s feeling the pressure to stand out while staying true to herself. To cope, Olive finds solace in an unexpected place: the DMs of Jasper Rafferty, the world’s hottest movie star, where she feels safe to share her hopes, fears, and secrets because it’s not like he’ll read them. Until he does. Kind of.
Career-wise, Jasper’s younger brother, Jude, is in free fall. After an interview gone wrong, Jude now has the thankless job of managing his brother’s social media accounts to help reboot his own image. Olive’s messages are unexpected, and her wit and vulnerability catch his interest. How can “Jasper” not respond? And how long can Jude keep up the ruse?
As the DMs get flirtier and more personal, the bigger question is what’ll happen when Olive finds out she’s fallen for a fraud. It might not be what either of them expects.
Summary: The DM Diaries by Teagan Hunter
Olive O’Brien, a plus-size model and Instagram influencer, never imagined that sliding into Jasper Rafferty’s DMs would turn into her digital diary. Then one day, he replies, sparking a conversation between them.
Jude Rafferty is running his brother’s socials now and was surprised to find Olive in his brother’s DMs. Jude’s enjoying how real Olive is in his world of Hollywood fakes and cliches.
When things get serious between them, how will the truth surface?
My Thoughts: The DM Diaries by Teagan Hunter
It took me a second to get into the story, but once the DMs started, I enjoyed the back and forth between Jude and Olive.
Both characters were so relatable, and their banter had me laughing out loud–there are aliens! 😂
The romance between Jude and Olive is slow-burning, and their exchanges through DMs and texts build up the tension between them perfectly.
Even though Olive has thousands of followers, she is down-to-earth funny. Jude on the other hand is tired of appeasing his publicist with fake dates and set up kisses. He’s so excited to find “normal” in Olive.
I also loved the affection between Jude and his two siblings. I’m low-key hoping they will have their own books, especially Jasper.
Hunter does an excellent job of handling the plus-size representation in this book. Olive’s insecurities and struggles with body image are realistically portrayed, making her character all the more relatable and endearing.
There is a third-act breakup in which I wasn’t too big of a fan. Teagan Hunter does handle it well with stand up secondary characters that come to the rescue–I love the selective listener Mrs. Hammish!
Overall, The DM Diaries is a fun, light-hearted read with great chemistry between the main characters. Hunter’s writing style is effortless to read, making it perfect for a cozy night in with a hot beverage.
